Below
are jus a few of numerous stories about children - some orphaned, some just in great
need - that we are attempting to help get sponsorships for at $25/month. The
following children as well as many others whose stories we haven’t been told
can be sponsored here: http://angoltokoutreach.com/sponsor/
WHAT SPONSORSHIP PROVIDES:
EVERY DAY THESE KIDS FACE A REAL STRUGGLE FOR SURVIVAL. Through your
sponsorship, they can provide each child with a uniform, a Christian
education, regular medical care and 2 hot, nutritious meals each day. As
money becomes available, the school also provides an opportunity for
them to minister to their families at home, making home repairs, helping
with crops or other basic needs.
CHILD #1 - AOC Little Angel’s Nursery School Child: Esanyu Julius
“I
am called Egwetu Alfonsi and I stay in Amoru village which is 2.5 miles
from Angoltok. I am a single father. My wife ran away leaving me to
care for my 2 children. I am left now also with 2 of my brother’s
children, because my brother died. I am a farmer, surviving on only the
food I can grow. But, I have a very small piece of land so it is
difficult to grown enough to survive.
The youngest boy in my care is Elyenu Emmanuel who is 3 years old. My prayer is that he will begin at AOC school next year.
Esanyu
Julius is 6 years old and he goes to AOC school. He says his favorite
color is yellow after seeing sunflowers. In the future, he said he wants
to become the driver of a big truck. His best subject in school is
drawing, but he struggles learning the English language.”
Prayer Requests for Esanyu Julius and his family:
Food:
Their land is very small and not enough to grow enough crops to
survive. They need to find land where they plant more food, but
negotiating for the use of someone else’s land is difficult because
everyone is struggling to have enough land.
Home: Their hut is crumbling and will need to be replaced very soon. It no longer keeps the rain and wind out.
School: The
older 2 children do not have an opportunity to go to school right now
due to a lack of school fees. They are thankful the younger two are
being allowed to attend AOC school.
CHILD #2 - AOC Little Angel’s Nursery School Child: OPIO BASSAL
“I’m
called Elasu Joshua. I’m a distant uncle, but also the
guardian/caretaker of these five orphaned children. We all stay in
Angoltok Village in Uganda. I didn’t become these children’s guardian by
choice, but because there was an extreme need and I was their only next
of kin.
I
am a peasant and depend on what the soil can provide. Yet, with these
five children to look after, it’s not easy work for sure because I can
hardly provide for myself.
Of
these 5 children, only one remains in school and that is Opio Bassal.
He is going to Angoltok Outreach Center Little Angels School. He is the 4th
born child. I cannot afford to pay the school fees necessary to send
the other children to school. I am thankful that Angoltok Outreach
Center helps to allow Bassal to go to school because without an
education he will have little future. Bassal is 7 years old. He says his
favorite color is blue and football (soccer) is his best sport. He
doesn’t know what he wants to be in the future, but he says he loves
school.
Bassal’s parents both died after his younger brother Mattias was born.”
Prayer Requests for Bassal’s family:
Education:
All five children need to be in school. Angoltok Outreach Center only
has a nursery school at this time, and cannot help the older kids with
an education.
Food: These kids get at most one meal/day.
Beddings and Clothes:
These kids have only one very worn outfit of clothes each. They sleep
on the ground. They have one mattress they share that has been eaten and
worn away to nothing.
Medicine: The kids get sick often and the uncle cannot afford to take them to the clinic or to provide medicine.
CHILD #3 AOC Little Angels Student: Amuge Kannah
“Kannah
is 3 years old. She has 7 brothers and sisters. Her father takes care
of Kannah and her siblings on his own. He has an infection in his thumb
that won’t heal and makes it very difficult for him to work. The
infection causes extreme pain, swelling and fevers, and they are unsure of the cause.
Kannah loves school. She is shy and quiet but a sweet little girl who loves to be hugged or talked to.”
Prayer requests for Kannah’s Family:
Medical Care: Kannah’s Dad has no money or a place to get further testing done for the problem with his hand.
Food: Kannah’s
Dad works hard, but cannot do much of the work needed to even grow food
for their family. He is sick much of the time.
School:
Most of the kids do not have school fees and cannot attend school. We
are so thankful to have an opportunity to help this family and to give
Kannah and her siblings a brighter future.
CHILD #4 - AOC Little Angels Nursery School Child: Akot Elizabeth
“This
little girl is called AKOT ELIZABETH. She is 5 years old and attends
the Angoltok Outreach School. She was born in the village of Angoltok.
Her parents both died shortly after the birth of her younger brother,
leaving them homeless.
Elizabeth
was given AIDS by her mother and is HIV positive. She struggles in
school because she has developed some major problems with her eyesight.
Elizabeth has to swallow a lot of medicine every morning and every
evening to keep her alive. These medications for AIDS are provided free
by the government of Uganda, but someone has to travel 2 hours to the
nearest town to get her medicine. She really struggles to swallow so
many pills. Elizabeth feels extremely cold every morning and every
evening before sun set she is already inside looking for a warm place,
while other kids are still out playing. When she gets cold, the coughing
starts and her weakened immune system makes it too easy for her to get
malaria and other illnesses.
Elizabeth’s
Aunt Procy has taken Elizabeth and her brother into her hut and is
trying to provide and care for them. Her husband does not want the
burden to care for the children and is constantly pushing Procy to send
the kids away. He is a drunkard and abusive. He burned down their small
mud kitchen and was arrested and is in prison now, leaving Procy alone
to manage everything. Procy has also just given birth to a baby that is
only 3 weeks old and is struggling to find a way to provide.
The
family has only the clothes on their backs and a small mud hut, which
is old, drafty and allows much cold air, rain and mosquitoes to enter
in, making life harder for Elizabeth. Like many families in Angoltok,
they sleep on a straw mat on the dirt floor.
To
get to school, Elizabeth and her brother travel over 8km through a
swamp, but they are so thankful to be able to go to school. Elizabeth
doesn’t know she has AIDS. She has a beautiful smile and even when sick,
she is happy all the time at school. She is in the middle class at the
AOC preschool and her brother is in the baby class.”
Prayer Requests for Elizabeth and her family:
We
have recently been able to build a new hut for them, but they still
need a mud brick kitchen to be built. Without the kitchen, the family
has to store food outside, where it will be contaminated by rats, or
else store it where they sleep, drawing the rats inside with them.
We
were also able to get them a mattress to get Elizabeth off the ground
and some blankets so she will be warmer at night, and some clothes for
her. Her younger brother still needs clothes as well as the Aunt who
cares for them.
Food:
They need a steady source of food. The AOC will allow them to farm
some land near the school and we want to also help work with the Aunt to
get some crops planted for them.
Medical Costs:
Elizabeth will continue to need regular visits to the AIDS clinic and
treatment for different ailments that come from her weakened immune
system. The family has no funds to pay for transport or treatment.
